No, it was none of that – it was because Democrats were too “woke,” the media covered up Biden’s cognitive decline, and Harris was protected from criticism because of her race. It’s a narrative so self-satisfied and dishonest it could only come from the high perch of a centrist media personality desperate to stay relevant after a fall from grace.
Part 1) The Myth Of The Out Of Touch Left
This can only be described for what it is: political malpractice dressed up as media analysis. The idea that Democrats are “out of touch” is a tired trope that refuses to die, because it flatters people like Cuomo who believe their detached posture is synonymous with wisdom.
The truth is Harris lost because Republicans have spent years building a disciplined, ruthless machine designed to undermine the Democratic system, while convincing Conservatives they’re the victims. They’ve flooded school boards across the land with lies about teachers turning their children trans and gay, have stacked the courts in their favor, and unleashed a torrent of voter restrictions targeting marginalized communities.
Meanwhile, progressives have pushed for healthcare access, climate action, student debt relief, and civil liberties. Apparently, advocating for human dignity is considered out of touch if it upsets the sensibilities of the imagined centrist voter that Cuomo is so obsessed with courting.
Part 2) The Right-Wing Media Hegemony
Cuomo’s claim that the media was too soft on Biden, covering up his mental decline, and shielding Harris due to her race – allegedly hailing her as a “Black Female Jesus” – is not just absurd – it’s projection. Right-Wing media has made Biden’s age and Harris’s identity central themes in their disinformation campaigns. Fox News, Newsmax, and an endless sprawl of YouTube demagogues and Twitter/X trolls have been pushing Biden senility narratives and racist caricatures for years.
The actual problem is not that mainstream media is too Left-Wing – it’s that they’ve spent years bending over backwards to appease the right in the name of “balance.” Platforms like CNN and Cuomo’s own NewsNation routinely present both-sides debates where one side is openly advocating for authoritarianism. They invite liars and insurrection apologists to the table to “debate” whether democracy still matters. That is not journalism. That is complicity.
Part 3) Centrism Enables Fascism
The most dangerous place in American politics is the middle ground occupied by Enlightened Centrists who think they know more than anyone else. They believe that calling out extremism is just as bad as extremism itself. Centrists who treat MAGA fascism and progressive policy as equal and opposite radicals, are helping to tip the scales in favor of authoritarianism.
Cuomo and his ilk don’t see the irony of accusing Democrats and progressives of being oppressive, when Republicans are banning books, criminalizing abortion, censoring teachers, and mass deportations of migrants to foreign prisons without due process. They’re fine with autocracy as long as it wears a suit and doesn’t tweet too much. What they can’t tolerate is moral clarity.
And so, they attack the left with smug detachment, whining about cancel culture and tone, while the right systematically strips away civil liberties, targets marginalized communities, and undermines the basic tenets of democracy. It’s not brave. It’s not neutral. It’s cowardice masquerading as balance.
Conclusion: This Is Not Normal
We’re living through a time when one political party has embraced authoritarianism. When it’s leaders openly vow to use the justice system to target their enemies, dismantle democratic institutions, and weaponize the office of the president to exact revenge for past grievances. But centrists like Cuomo want to lecture to their viewers that Democrats were not sufficiently sympathetic to the feelings of MAGA.
This isn’t just intellectually bankrupt. It’s morally repugnant.
Cuomo’s tired Centrism is a product of privilege – the luxury of pretending that all sides are equally flawed when only one side is actively working to dismantle the system. By normalizing Trumpism and punching left, he and his media peers are not saving democracy. They’re helping to bury it.
If we want to preserve any semblance of a democratic future, we need to stop indulging the enlightened centrist lie that both sides are equally extreme. It’s time to tell the truth: there is no middle ground between democracy and fascism. And anyone pretending there is, has already chosen a side.
