In 2021, amid concerns of a conservative bias, Nexstar Media Group re-branded the cable network WGN to NewsNation, with a promise of “fact based and unbiased” news reporting.
Anyone who has consumed its content on a regular basis, would know that this is not the case.
The Daily Blaze reported in 2022 that the criticism of a conservative bias is that it is mainly conservative media.
“This conservative bias is reflected in it’s station lineup. The network has members from conservative advocacy groups such as Heritage Action. The network is also part of WGN America, which has a center-right reputation…
…”Currently, NewsNation features several TV personalities – TV personalities? – including Ashleigh Banfield, Leland Vittert, and Dan Abrams.
Leland Vittert was previously employed as a Fox News opinion host, and Dan Abrams with MSNBC. Since joining NewsNation, Vittert’s opinion programing has consistently fear-mongered about everything from COVID lockdowns, vaccine mandates, the so-called border crisis – never missing an opportunity to portray it as an invasion of terrorists and drug smugglers – and the dangers of urban black youth in America.
Abrams is a former MSNBC correspondent, and creator of other media, including The Mary Sue, and Mediaite. Lately, on his nightly broadcast, Abrams has made absurd accusations that so-called “leftist media” MSNBC and CNN have been normalizing Hamas terrorism with “Gaza talking points.”
In other words, anyone in the media who is critical of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in Gaza, feels any sympathy or empathy for dead, starving, or dying Palestinians, they’re just Hamas supporters. Abrams resorted to this idiotic defense right after the events of October 07, accusing certain commentators at MSNBC of being sympathetic to Hamas, simply because they were critical of Israel’s long standing treatment of Palestinians.
“While the content is unquestionably fact-based, the news organization is still under scrutiny for a conservative bias.
While one can make the argument that much of it’s straight news content is fact-based, its opinion content is anything but fact based.
In a recent research/study from Media Matters, the watchdog group released a report on how “NewsNation Is Just Another Right-wing Cable Network”:
“When Nexstar launched NewsNation in 2021, it promised “fact-based and unbiased news.” Instead, what customers got was another right-wing Cable news network. NewsNations’s evening opinion shows contain the same sort of racism, sexism, and anti-immigrant hate as other right -wing networks. While Leland Vittert leads the charge with his slanted On Balance rants, Chris Cuomo and Dan Abrams’ shows aren’t exempt from right-wing narratives and framing. Fittingly, NewsNation was just chosen to host the fourth GOP presidential debate.”
In addition to it’s content, NewsNation has recently ventured into UFO conspiracy territory, treating the subject as if it’s fact and not science fiction. NewsNation has recently hired George Knapp, a long-time UFO and paranormal crackpot.
