Here we go again. Another School Shooting, this time at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde County, Texas. There will be more useless thoughts and prayers offered up by our politicians, the president of the United States, and the news media. And like the aftermath of every shooting across America, nothing of any substance will be done to lessen the likelihood of it happening again.
There will be partisan bickering among both Democrats and Republicans, each pointing their finger at the other. The Democrats saying that the Republicans love their guns and the second amendment more than they love children. Which is true, to be honest. And the Republicans accusing the Democrats, liberals and the media of wanting to take their guns away. And once again, nothing will be done. Fuck them both.
Tuesday morning, another eighteen year old gunman massacred children and teachers at a Texas county elementary school with an assault weapon. Just like Sandy Hook elementary school, and just like countless other schools. The Democrats will talk about gun control, the Republicans will talk about mental illness and video games and anything to obfuscate the fact that too many guns in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them, is a big part of the problem.
Apparently, the gunman shot his grandmother during an argument over failing to graduate. He then stole her truck and crashed it into a ditch outside the school, in a mostly Hispanic area west of San Antonio, Texas. According to multiple reports, the victims were 19 children ranging in ages between 06 and 10, and two adults. The two adults were schoolteachers.
President Biden gave a statement to the press Tuesday in the aftermath of the tragedy, urging the nation to offer thoughts and prayers and a weak call to stand up to the gun lobby.
“As a nation, we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?
“Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it and stand up to the lobbies?”
I can empathize with his frustration, but his statement is nothing more than useless platitude. Only he can answer why they keep letting this happen, and why they won’t stand up to the gun lobby, the NRA. I do know that Congress and the president’s inaction will only ensure that this will continue to happen, and any amount of thoughts and prayers, and meaningless platitudes, will do squat.
