In The News: Biden Calls Withdrawal From “Forever War In Afghanistan” Successful; Republicans Call For War

From the White House Tuesday, Joe Biden called the withdrawal of troops and personnel from Afghanistan, a success.

The invasion of Afghanistan began twenty years ago. It was but  one response to 9/11; the other was the invasion of Iraq. Both of which, amounted to nothing good, but countless lost lives.

Twenty years later, the U.S. is no closer to defeating terrorism in the Middle East, or anywhere in the world for that matter. It’s an impossible task to complete.

“Last night in Kabul, the United States ended twenty years of war in Afghanistan. The longest war in American history. We completed one of the biggest air lifts in history with more than 120,000 people evacuated to safety…

“They did it knowing ISIS terrorists, sworn enemies of the Taliban, were lurking in the midst of those crowds, and still the women and men of the United States military, our diplomatic corps and Intelligence professionals did their job and did it well…

Twenty service members were wounded in the service of this mission, thirteen heroes gave their lives…

In April, I made a decision to end this war. As part of that decision, we set the date of August 31st for American troops to withdraw…

“Let me be clear, leaving Afghanistan the 31st, is not due to an arbitrary deadline. It was designed to save American lives. My predecessor, the former president, signed an agreement with the Taliban to remove US troops by May first, just months after I was inaugurated.

So we were left with a simple decision… I was not going to extend a forever war, and I was not going to extend a forever exit…”

Congressional Republicans had some stupid shit to say in criticism of the withdrawal – which included impeaching Biden.

Dan Crenshaw on Fox News: “The war is clearly not ended. You can’t unilaterally end a war. It takes two to tango and these people will never stop fighting us. Their capabilities are still intact. We should retake more airfields throughout the country. It will take troops on the ground and a complete reassessment of our strategy. The military can do it. We need the will politically to do it.”

Former Trump Pentagon chief of staff, Kash Patel: “Air superiority is something we have always had in Afghanistan. And our predator program dominated the skies under president Trump, and we can do it again if we retake Bagram airfield because that is the center country ops.”

Rudy – melting hair dye and all – Giuliani on Twitter: “The terrorist attacks in Kabul were only possible because the Biden administration pulled out our troops, abandoned our air base and left massive armaments for the terrorists to kill us.”

Even Fox News pundits joined in the stupidity. Todd Starnes:

“For every American who is killed, a city in Afghanistan should be wiped off the earth.”

Fox contributor Johnny Jones: “I was an E6 in the Marine Corp and I’ll tell you, the dogs of war are hungry and it might be time to let them eat. I hate that… it’s not woke, but as we would say, stack the bodies up and let them see it.”

House Minority idiot, Kevin McCarthy – the Republican whom Nancy Pelosi recently referred to as a moron – in a statement, criticized Biden’s withdrawal as the “worst foreign policy disaster in decades.”

A worse foreign policy disaster was invading Afghanistan in the first place. Try telling this to a Republican without their brain imploding. To them, staying in Afghanistan indefinitely would have been a success, a success that would have no positive outcome, that would bring no end to terrorism in sight, but would make matters worse, and in the end, take the lives of many more Americans.
