The myth of the liberal media has been pushed by conservative media figures for decades with no evidence. Actually the media is dominated by right-wing conservative voices that push a conservative agenda. Even right-wing talk radio has for decades, dominated the air waves.
There are three types of media bias. Sensational, establishment, and neutrality bias. CNN and MSNBC engage in all three biases. Fox is pure right-wing establishment bias. CNN’s guilt is not that it’s liberal, but that it constantly engages in neutrality bias, taking both sides of news stories that are important to a vast majority of Americans. For instance, whenever they do a news story on Global warming ( which is rare ), or gun violence, instead of objectively reporting the issues, they always go out of their way to present both sides, facts be damned, as though opinions and personal feelings are just as important as facts. They’re not. If CNN were liberal, or progressive, it would objectively report the facts on Climate Change, gun violence, health care, the Green New Deal, or any issue that is important to progressives and liberals, instead of engaging in false equivalency. Their anchors supported the Iraq war, and praised Trump’s bombing of Syria just months after he took the White House, and have featured more negative coverage of Bernie Sanders in favor of the establishment favorite, Hilary Clinton. CNN gladly bends over backwards to allow conservatives to rat f**k them, because they’re terrified of being called liberal or progressive, and still right-wingers bitch and moan about how biased they are against conservatives. F**king hilarious!
Last year, the conservative media giant, Sinclaire Broadcast Group, owned by the Sinclair family, which in turn owns nearly two hundred local affiliated news stations across the country, required local news broadcasters to air the exact same scripted message about media bias and fake news :
I’m extremely proud of the quality, balanced journalism that we produce. But I’m concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one sided news stories plaguing our country. The sharing of biased and false news has become all too common on social media. More alarming, national media outlets are publishing the same fake stories without checking facts first. Unfortunately, some members of national media are using their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control ‘exactly what people think.’ This is extremely dangerous to our democracy. We understand that Truth is neither left nor right. Our commitment to factual reporting is the foundation of our credibility, now more than ever.
The promo is nothing but pure right-wing projection, propaganda. Here you have a right-wing media broadcast empire – which apparently made a 2016 deal with the Trump campaign to do positive news coverage on Trump – requiring its local broadcasters to criticize the media as fake news, while they themselves are engaging in fake news and right-wing propaganda. Talk about media bias.
Right-wing media has done nothing but push fake news stories for years. Fox News did stories on birtherism, the belief that Obama’s birth certificate is fake, bashed him for wearing a tan suit, putting mustard on a hamburger, pushed conspiracy theories about how he deliberately allowed Americans to die in Benghazi, death panels in the ACA, the Seth Rich murder, Charlottesville was a left-wing Antifa conspiracy to delegitimize Trump.
So, the claim that the media is unfairly biased against conservatives, is ridiculous. However, there is plenty of evidence to show that there is a right-wing, and an establishment bias against progressives. But conservatives continue to push the myth of a liberal media.
